Psalm 116 - Dona la pace (53)

Dona la pace Signore, a chi confida in Te
Dona la pace Signore, dona la pace

12 What shall I return to the Lord
    for all his goodness to me?

13 I will lift up the cup of salvation
    and call on the name of the Lord.

15 Precious in the sight of the Lord
    is the death of his faithful servants.
16 Truly I am your servant, Lord;
    I serve you just as my mother did;
    you have freed me from my chains.

17 I will sacrifice a thank offering to you
    and call on the name of the Lord.
18 I will fulfill my vows to the Lord
    in the presence of all his people,

Tu palabra (99)

Tu palabra, Señor, no muere,
nunca muere, porque es la vida misma,
y la vida, Señor, no solo vive,
no solo vive, la vida vivifica.

From the Gospel according to s. John
Jn 13, 1-15

13 It was just before the Passover Festival. Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.

The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus. Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.

He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?”

Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”

“No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.”

Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.”

“Then, Lord,” Simon Peter replied, “not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!”

10 Jesus answered, “Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you.” 11 For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said not every one was clean.

12 When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. 13 “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.

Intercessions - Kyrie

Lord God of peace, we pray to you for peace in the world. Protect, welcome, accompany and bless the poorest, the refugees and the displaced and the victims of every war. Keep us united to you in the light of your Resurrection.

Lord God of peace, keep the flame of hope burning in us to patiently persevere in making choices of dialogue and reconciliation, so that peace may finally win. And may these words be banished from the heart of every man: division, hatred, war!

Lord God of peace, hear our plea! We have tried so many times and for so many years to resolve our conflicts with our own strength and even with our weapons; so many moments of hostility and darkness; so much blood spilled; so many lives broken; so many hopes buried... But our efforts have been in vain. Now, Lord, help us! Give us peace, teach us peace, lead us towards peace.

Praying together

Lord Jesus,
who come to us every day
to give us resurrection,
welcome our frailties
and our struggles!

Console us in our sadness;
help us to be close to those who suffer.

Lord Jesus,
who love your friends and are moved by them,
make us be like you!
